What is a ‘Christmas Drama Day’?

Christmas Drama Day is a day dedicated to celebrating Christmas through drama, movement, music, and play.

What happens on the day?

During the day, you will lead five sequential activities:

1) ‘SNOWY DAYS’ (music and movement activity) This is the first time children meet Pip, as they jump, kick, and dance together in the snowy garden.

2) ‘ONE SNOWY NIGHT’ (drama game) Pip is asleep when it’s time to decorate the tree; let’s wake him up!

3) ‘THE COUNTING TREE’ (drama game) In this magical counting game, children work together to calculate how many Christmas fairies it takes to decorate the tree.

4) ‘A CHRISTMAS THANK YOU’ (drama game) We all love to give and receive presents at Christmas, but how many ways are there to say, ‘thank you’?

5) ‘HOME FOR CHRISTMAS’ (whole group discussion) Children plan the perfect Christmas for their new friend Pip, who they will take home with them for the holidays!

Is Pip the fairy a prop?

No, Pip the snow fairy is an imaginary character brought to life by the teacher (our short teacher demonstration videos will show you how) and who joins in with each activity throughout the day.

How do I prepare for the day?

Don’t overthink it! Simply watch the short demonstration videos and familiarise yourself with each activity. You don’t have to learn the role-play scripts, but you may want to print them out and have them next to you during the day.

Do children need to dress up?

Children don’t need to wear costumes to experience the magic of Christmas Drama Day. All they need is a little imagination! Having said that, it may be fun to wear a special outfit or come dressed as a favourite Christmas character.

What’s the support group?

You’ll automatically be added to our online support group when you sign up, where you can chat with other parents and educators of preschool children. Ask questions, share ideas, seek support, and get inspired!

Do I have to be ‘good at’ drama?

If you can pull a funny face and make a child laugh or put on different voices when reading a story, you are good at drama! And don’t forget, your resource includes demonstration videos and ongoing support, so anyone, no matter what their experience of drama, can deliver powerful and meaningful play.
