When most people hear the word ‘phonics’, their thoughts go straight to letter learning, sounding out words and eventually reading sentences – but what about what happens before all of that?

Phase 1 Phonics builds a solid foundation for children learn letter sounds and, later, read. Without it, children have trouble hearing individual sounds and how they blend together to make a word.

In this course, we will take a look at the 7 different ‘aspects’ within phase 1 phonics and how we can ensure that the children in our care are building this crucial foundation, on which they will continue to build for the rest of their lives.
