Introduction to the SchemaPlay pedagogy

Overview

Planning from children’s interests improves outcomes for children, we know that if they are interested, they will learn. When children engage with an activity based on their interests, we see higher levels of attention, motivation and persistence to overcome challenge. Using children’s repeated patterns of behaviour or children’s ‘schemes’, as interests we tune in to these fascinations and use these to scaffold learning and plan for progress. The SchemaPlay pedagogy provides a deeper understanding of how children really do learn through play and a fresh approach to the way we observe, assess and plan.
